Hua Rui Shi stops bleeding and disperses blood stagnation. Clinically it is used to address hemoptysis (coughing up blood) and hematemesis (vomiting blood) when there is also blood stasis present. It is also used topically (in a paste) to stop external bleeding from traumatic injuries.
